The Lesson

Then Jesus took his disciples up the mountain, and gathering them around him, he taught them, saying:

"Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are they that mourn, for they will be comforted.
Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.
Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.
Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God.
Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me.
Be glad and rejoice for your reward is great in heaven."

Then Simon said, "Are we suppose to know this?";
and Andrew said, "Do we have to write this down?".
And James said, "Will this be on the exam?".
And Luke said, "Do we have to hand this in?".
And John said, "The other disciples didn't have to learn this".
And Matthew said, "Why can't this be put in a handout?".

Then one of the Pharisees who was present asked to see Jesus' course outline and inquired of him, "Where are your aims and objectives in the cognitive domain, your concept maps and your multimedia presentations?"

And Jesus wept.

very interesting twist to the sermon on the mount.

i wonder if Jesus wept because of the Pharisees' brash query. or was it because his beloved disciples were totally indifferent??
