Watching Stargate Universe

I love watching Stargate SG1, Stargate:Atlantis and now Stargate Universe. Unfortunately Stargate Universe was canceled after two seasons. The idea of a mismatched groups of military types and civilian scientist types trapped in an incredible ancient but technologically advanced spaceship has the fantastic potential for great science fiction television. Unfortunately, this series did not make the grade with two dimensional characterization and poor plotlines that do not correlation with accurate scientific facts. However, I still love watching it.

The spaceship Destiny is great. I am hoping to get a model of it. Anyone knows where I can get one?

Maggie Q as Nikita

Maggie Q stars as Nikita in this television action series about black opts and rogue agents. I am impressed by her acting and am proud that finally an Asian has a leading role in an American television series. Well half Asian anyway as her mother is Vietnamese and father is Irish and Polish. I can still remember when all Asians in movies and televisions were portrayed by Caucasians. Remember David Carradine as a Shaolin monk in Kung Fu?

Nikita is an American television drama for The CW Television Network. It is based on the French film Nikita (1990), the remake Point of No Return (1993), and a previous series La Femme Nikita (1997). Nikita premiered on September 9, 2010.

The series stars Maggie Q as Nikita, a spy and assassin who has gone rogue. She is now working to bring down Division, the secret government agency that recruited her. Meanwhile, Division trains its next crop of young killers.

Nikita is worth watching and Maggie Q wardrobe change is interesting reminding us that she is also a professional model. The series is like Alias + 24.

Remastered Original Star Trek

The remastering of the three seasons of the Original Star Trek Series has been completed and is for sale. I am wondering whether I should buy it. A showcase by the masters at CBS Digital containing the effects they recreated for Star Trek: Remastered.

On 8 September 1966, NBC aired the first episode of Star Trek in an episode named The Man Trap. That launched the phenomenon known as the Star Trek Universe.

I enjoy these two episodes in the fourth and final season of the Star Trek: Enterprise television series. I really like the twist at the end of the story.

Who is Jack Bauer?

24 is a eight seasons television series that is very exciting and addictive. Great for adrenaline junkies. Recently Chris Armstrong commented on the theology of Jack Bauer, the hero of the series 24. He based that on the blog entry of John Shore who wrote that 24: We do know Jack Bauer. We ARE Jack Buer.

I do have concern if Jack Bauer is every person’s hero as portrait by John Shore. That means that we all subscribe to relative moralism and that the ends always justifies the means; that violence always solve the problems and the best way to deal with bad guys is to shoot them.

The series is rivetting and addictive. It is also about a psychopath who wears a badge.

Please Don't Forget How to Dance

After reading Kansas Bob's post on While we're here we should dance, the notion of dancing has been playing on my mind. Not that I am a dancer or anything. It is the notion that that dancing as a celebration of life. God is also known as Lord of the dance. Perichoresis or the relationship of the Persons in the Trinity is liken to a dance. So dancing as a celebration of life and of God.

Last night I was watching the War Prayer episode of Babylon 5. My daughter and I have decided to watch the whole series and the movies in the sequence it was aired. In that episode in the first season, Centaurian ambassador Londo Mollari said this to Vir, his aide.

Something my father said. He was old, very old at the time. I went into his room, and he was sitting alone in the dark, crying. So I asked him what was wrong, and he said, "My shoes are too tight, but it doesn't matter, because I have forgotten how to dance." I never understood what that meant until now. My shoes are too tight, and I have forgotten how to dance.

This episode deals with the call of duty and traditions in the Centuarian society. Marriages are arranged and are often used as means for merger of noble houses to make themselves more powerful. There is no room for love or free will. The ambassador realised too late for him that "My shoes are too tight, and I have forgotten how to dance."

Both of us are struck by this scene. Life has a tendency to tie us down and force us to conform to expectations and the norms of society. Hopefully it has not bound us so tightly that we are presently "living lives of quiet desperation." May we live life of moderation and not forget how to dance. May we not be so tied down by our obligations that we forget how to live, or have a life.

Then I realized that it is good and proper for a man to eat and drink, and to find satisfaction in his toilsome labor under the sun during the few days of life God has given him—for this is his lot. ^Moreover, when God gives any man wealth and possessions, and enables him to enjoy them, to accept his lot and be happy in his work—this is a gift of God.

A Television Series named Combat!

I have an enjoyable and nostalgic time watching Combat! on DVD. Combat! was a television series which was produced and screened for five years from 1962-1967. The first four years was in black and white and the last season was in colour. It was about a squad of American G.I.s fighting in France in the Second World War.

I watched it when I was a wee lad. Watching it now, I find it as enjoyable as before, especially it is in black and white. The first season was really good with guest stars like Lee Marvin, James Colburn, Richard Baseheart, Eddie Alberts, and Leonard Nimoy. I find the stories well crafted.
